Rodney Martinez grew up in an environment filled with good food and big gatherings. Most of his family are either food entrepreneurs, chefs and/or foodies. Thus, taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management was the natural course for him in college. His love for music and food brought him to open ’Famous Mike’s’ in the late 90’s, a popular hangout in Libis known for billiards, music, booze and of course, their legendary ’pulutan’. Although his rise as a Club DJ eclipsed what could’ve been a career in the culinary arts, he never stopped cooking. While his foray in the kitchen was limited to special family occasions and other get-togethers, Rodney never stopped learning, researching and developing recipes. When the club scene was shut down by the pandemic in 2020, it reignited DJ Rodney’s inner chef as he once again spent most of his time in his kitchen: developing, preparing and selling specialty dishes online to his surrounding community and beyond. His simple and unpretentious but big-on-flavor cooking style has always garnered rave reviews. This is the culinary approach that he wants to share with The Bailiwick Academy.
